One of the most destructive lies in the Church is this: “If you feel peace, it’s from God.”

But the truth is: if you feel peace about sin, your peace is from the devil. The enemy can give peace—but it never lasts. Scripture teaches this when St. Paul warns that “Satan disguises himself as an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14).

The saints confirm it: St. Ignatius of Loyola explains how the devil mimics God’s consolations, and St. Teresa of Ávila warns of false peace. Even St. Thomas Aquinas shows how the angels fell by choosing a good apart from God.
