Advent Retreat

Before the Gospel was written, it was pondered. It was cherished. It was remembered.

Begin preparing for Advent and Christmas by reflecting on Mary’s Memory–and cultivating your own.

Join us for “Pondering and Preserving the Word: The Maternal Memory of Mary” a morning retreat given by Fr. Jeremiah Shryock, CFR, and Claire Dwyer, co-sponsored with Write These Words (an online platform designed to support Catholic writers in their spiritual lives and creative calling).

This all-new Advent event is happening Saturday, November 21 from 9:30 AM – 12 PM CST.

When you join us for this compact yet powerful retreat you’ll reflect on:

  • The absolute necessity of Marian devotion to persevere on the path to holiness
  • How we can and must, like Our Lady, ponder the mysteries surrounding the Incarnation especially in Advent
  • How Mary’s memory made the Gospels possible
  • Why we need the maternal memory of the Church-what that’s called and why it has been attacked through the centuries
  • Why our own memory becomes a battlefield
  • Ways that Mary can help us remember what God has done for us

And you’ll be given:

  • A  prayer practice involving pondering one of the Marian titles surrounding the Incarnation. Spend this Advent in a special “chapel” in your heart dedicated to one of the Marian mysteries. (We’ll provide a list of possible titles to help you orient your prayer this Advent, and help you discern which to choose.)
  • A joyful daily discipline of remembrance–preserving in your own memory the record of God’s goodness to you through a particular kind of journaling.
  • A way to gift the infant Jesus your own magnificat as Advent makes way for our celebration of Jesus’ birth at Christmas.

*All who register will be sent the recording and downloadable Advent prayer guides.
